I need some suggestions on something I have been having trouble with lately. Let’s see if I can explain this properly… I’ve always felt that when it comes to shaking men’s hands, it’s better to decline even though it is a big part of American culture and not shaking someone’s hand can be offensive. I never wanted to offend anyone, but I felt that not shaking a man’s hand when you first met allowed you to establish your personal boundaries right from the start. This could help avoid even more awkward situations in the future. However, lately I’ve been rethinking this philosophy because people aren’t just simply offended that I won’t shake their hand anymore. More commonly now they will also get this mortified look on their faces like they have done some terrible thing and can’t even look me in the eye. Generally that happens if they ask me why I don’t shake hands. I still prefer not to shake hands with men, but I think I need to find a creative way of explaining why so that the men don’t feel like they just tried to violate me or something!
I need suggestions! Does anyone have any ideas or advice for me on this? I’d really like to be able to give an answer that makes people admire Islam or at least respect the practice. What does everyone think?
Well, I have nothing to blog about but I wanted to put something up here anyway. It's nice to be on break. :) What's funny is that the first few days after the semester was over, it was hard to get used to the fact that I didn't have any studying to do. I even felt like I was on a schedule to hurry up and relax! Lol. I had so many things running through my mind that I had been waiting to do that I didn't know where to even start. Alhamdulillah, I am accomplishing some things though and getting in some good fun time as well.
Tonight my family and I went to see the new Rocky movie. We are all Rocky fans--seen all 6 movies and intend on buying the whole collection when it comes out. Haha. I think the new movie is a great addition to the series. At 60 years old I wasn't sure if Sly could pull it off any more, but he did! I really liked it.
Mid terms tend to mark the end of the semester crunch. Blah. Here’s a little something to help cheer us up a little in between hitting the books and the libraries. Enjoy. :)
*Robbie dragged me into his room the other day to show this to me and I thought it was worth sharing. :)
I know we hear alot of stuff about how all the ladies in the magazines don't actually look that way, but I'm not sure I fully realized what that meant. This is the unrealistic standard of beauty
I came accross this ninjabi.com web site thinking, "How dare someone take my name!" Lol. But it's a really cute site and the girl who made it sells a few T-shirts that are so perfect for Hijabis. One of them made me think of my dear ZZ. It says: "Dangers of Hijab. #12 Random men will propose to you." Hehe, it's so funny cuz its actually true. Check out the other shirts, they're cute. :)
